"Pre-Tribulational" theory has advanced this notion. New Testament theology declares that the human body, filled with the Holy Spirit of God, is now the temple of God.
1 Cor 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
17 If any man defileth the temple of God, him will God destroy: for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
There is one other body, and it is a many membered one:
Romans 12:4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:
5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.
And so, it seems reasonable to me to conclude that the many membered body of Christ is also a temple of the Lord in our time.
The Book of Hebrews clearly lays out a convincing case in confirming the new covenant in the blood of Christ Jesus, and in demonstrating its' superiority over the old covenant, that was implemented with the shedding of the blood of bulls and goats.
Construction of such a temple again, on the temple mount, will not be a holy place in my estimation, but an abomination. Jerusalem was already desolated once in 70 AD for missing the time of their visitation, and continuing on with the system of animal sacrifice and temple worship.
